CREATIVE AT AN EARLY AGE

Meet Hali Noel

DNA of my father, an art dealer, and mother, an interior designer, my visual upbringing and exposure was rich in beauty, knowledge, and love of art.

Growing up in N.Y., I was privileged to receive my informal education in and out of museums, art galleries, and fabric houses. I hold an advanced degree in love of textiles & textures, touching anything & everything wherever I go.

My early fascination with Impressionism began a lifelong infatuation with Monet’s Waterlillies, his broad strokes and use of color. Inspired by my enormous love of art and its grandiose place in this world, I challenged myself to paint, paint and paint more.

I am a self-taught large format abstract acrylic painter. Drawn to as large a canvas as I can hold, that initial blank space arouses an even larger excitement and fuels my imagination. As frustration is a normal occurrence, there is definitely magic in seeing the mistakes I make turn into my very own creations.

I imagine to watch me paint is like watching a woman put on her makeup without her glasses, cake on layer upon layer haphazardly, each color evoking another.

I am also fortunate to have lived in Los Angeles with my husband and two children for almost two decades. In 1999, we moved cross-country to the gorgeous waters of Miami where we now live as empty nesters.

In art there is no such thing as, “practice makes perfect”!

My personal mission is to...
Always experiment, stay adventurous, and have courage with my found language, art.

Eternally grateful to my talented parents! First love: Monet. Always loves: Larry Poons and Joan Mitchell.

Artist Statement

Grateful to have captured my place in this world of talents, and fortunate to love what I do!

As a self taught painter, I find myself encouraged and stimulated by the beauty of nature, color, textures and French Music.

My work, truly my personal journal, are translations of beautiful moments and experiences, breathtaking gardens, masterful works of art and architecture, the kind that make you stop and gasp in amazement.

Blessed to travel, I am beguiled by France, its artistic and inimitable charm, culture, love, romance, Impressionism, Monet and music. Instudio, I paint while listening to a selected french pop music playlist filled with expressive intensity.

It is with tiny brushes, sponge’s, Golden acrylics, lots of music and physicality that I translate images and moments, some seen and unseen, many times dreamt up through the night.

My work is that moment, a vision, an interpretation of beauty now a transformation onto canvas.

My current body of works are conceptions of gardens, a series of large and small organic and deliberate childlike strokes and markings, a giant coloring book come to life.

Several newer pieces are created with tissue paper where I sculpt random representational flowers, sometimes butterflies forming a three-dimensional impression bursting with texture, energy and breath.

My process always involves applying acrylic hues, bright, warm and moody wiping off to an ultra light transparency creating an impressionistic tone.

Each piece tells a story, one that draws you in, a quiet, peaceful sophistication revealing many beautiful markings avant garde and filled with surprise.
